The Norwegian firm Lund Hagem Architects created this ‘summer cabin in a winter landscape’ on one of the highest suitable building plots at the Kvitfjell ski resort in Norway. The two parts of the 120-square-metre cabin extend from the slope on stilts, making it seem to float above the ground and offering unbroken views of the mountains.
To further reinforce the contemporary cabin’s summer feel, the architects covered the glass walls with thin vertical louvres. Inside, the floors and ceilings are of oiled oak, creating a warm and comforting atmosphere, enhanced by the iconic Gyrofocus, which is given pride of place in the living area. The suspended fireplace is a unifying element and a focus that invites dwellers to enjoy the mountain backdrop.
